Nature Recovery

OUR APPROACH

Our vision is to heal and regenerate the natural world through ecological recovery projects that connect people, businesses and communities with nature.

From rewilding and wetland creation to organic agriculture and peatland recovery, we are committed to restoring biodiversity, enhancing ecosystem resilience and tackling the climate crisis. By embracing nature led solutions, we create thriving landscapes that support wildlife, lock away carbon and inspire sustainable land management.

RIVER REJUVENATION

Wetlands are some of the most ecologically abundant places on earth and are vital to healthy functioning ecosystems. Over 90 percent of Britain’s wetlands have been lost over the last 100 years. In former agricultural land we are recovering degraded wetlands to their natural state by breaking up and blocking old drainage systems to enable the free flow of water. Our rewetting projects at Watercress Farm and Aberarder are helping to improve water quality, prevent soil erosion, and support biodiversity by providing crucial breeding and feeding grounds for many species.

REWILDING LANDSCAPES

Across all our sites, we rewild landscapes by restoring natural processes and letting nature lead. Our work reintroduces free-roaming grazing animals, encourages native vegetation to return, and supports seasonal water movements to shape land naturally. This approach helps create rich, self-sustaining ecosystems, transforming previously managed landscapes into vibrant, biodiverse habitats.

PEATLAND RECOVERY

The recovery and protection of peatland are crucial in our efforts to combat climate change. Peatlands act as vital carbon sinks, storing more carbon per hectare than forests. However, when degraded, they release carbon, contributing to global warming. Our recovery efforts at Aberarder involve rewetting drained areas and reintroducing native vegetation helping to lock away carbon.

REGENERATING WOODLANDS

Trees are often described as being the lungs of the earth, but our native trees provide so much more than the oxygen we need to breathe. In addition to sequestering carbon from the atmosphere, giving shade to animals and people, and stabilising soils, trees also support a wide array of biodiversity, an oak tree, for example, supports over 2300 species alone. Our woodland regeneration work spans upland, lowland, and wetland environments tailored to each landscape’s natural character. By planting the right trees in the right places, we’re rebuilding ecological networks, enriching soil and water systems, and creating resilient habitats.

FARMING WITH NATURE

We don’t plough our fields, reducing carbon losses and creating a healthy soil biome. We don’t house or supplementary feed our livestock, they live in the field year-round, grazing what naturally grows around them. As well as producing high-quality organic food, we’re taking steps to help combat our climate and biodiversity crises through our regenerative practices.
