Pegasus Group help other people plan and build places, they work on planning, design, landscape architecture and heritage, plus a lot of ecology and biodiversity net gain. From today, they’re also backing nature recovery at Belmont as one of our sustainability partners.
How our partnerships work
Sustainability partners contribute to our nature recovery work in a way that suits their organisation, they get access to the estate and a package of work built around what they need. That could be carbon removal, event space, volunteering time for their staff, or a mix of all three. For Pegasus, the focus is carbon, nature and community.
What Pegasus is funding
Peatland. Each year, Pegasus funds 162 tonnes of carbon removal through peatland restoration in Scotland. Another 163 tonnes goes to an international restoration project at Mt Elgon in Kenya, which makes 325 tonnes a year in total.
Nature recovery. Pegasus is funding 60 Nature Recovery Units at Belmont, that’s 540 square metres of land secured by a conservation covenant, a legal agreement that keeps land for nature over the long term. They’re also paying for 150 trees at Aberarder, our landscape-scale nature recovery project in the Scottish Highlands.
Nature connection. There are 220 hours of community work through our award-winning nature connection programme, and 40 volunteering days for Pegasus staff out on the land with our team.
Why Pegasus?
Pegasus advise clients across the country on what nature should look like in new developments, spending time somewhere that’s recovering gives that advice real meaning.
“Pegasus spend their working days advising on ecology and biodiversity net gain for other people’s land. Time on a site that’s actually recovering gives that work some grounding. We’re delighted to have Pegasus as a partner,” said Henry Rossiter, Business Development Director at Belmont.
Tom Rothero, Biodiversity & Ecology Head at Pegasus Group, said: “This partnership reflects the values that sit at the heart of Pegasus Group. We are committed to helping create places that work for people and nature. Belmont Estate are demonstrating what’s possible when nature recovery is given the time, space and the investment to succeed. Through supporting its nature recovery and community initiatives, we are reinforcing our own sustainability ambitions while contributing to meaningful environmental change.”
Jonathan Rainery, Deputy CEO at Pegasus Group, said: “Partnering with Belmont Estate marks an exciting step forward in achieving our carbon reduction targets. For Pegasus though this is more than offsetting our CO2 emissions, it’s an opportunity to support and learn from an innovative nature recovery programme and contribute to a sustainable future.”
