ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION

We are boosting biodiversity and creating habitats by rewilding grassland, creating wetlands, restoring peatland, and regenerating woodland.

WHAT IS OUR APPROACH?

Our vision is to heal and regenerate the natural world through ecological projects that reconnect people, businesses, and communities with nature. From rewilding and wetland creation to regenerative agriculture and peatland recovery, we are committed to restoring biodiversity, enhancing ecosystem resilience, and tackling the climate crisis. By embracing nature-led solutions, we create thriving landscapes that support wildlife, lock away carbon, and inspire sustainable land management.

We create wetlands

In 2023, we delivered the Watercress Rewetting project just outside Bristol to reconnect the Land Yeo River to its original floodplain, benefiting nature, climate, and community.

The project filters and slows rainwater runoff, helping to prevent downstream flooding and reduce pollutants entering the river and, ultimately, the sea. It will transform an environmentally degraded landscape into a biodiverse wetland supporting abundant wildlife.

We rewild landscapes

We rewild landscapes by restoring natural processes and allowing nature to lead. Free-roaming cattle, pigs, and ponies play a crucial role in shaping the land, encouraging natural regeneration, and creating diverse, dynamic ecosystems. We are transforming previously managed landscapes into thriving habitats by reintroducing mixed grazing, seasonal flooding, and natural tree growth.

This approach boosts biodiversity, strengthens ecosystem resilience, and reconnects people with nature, showcasing the power of nature-led restoration in regenerating our damaged landscapes.

Peatland in Scotland

We restore peatlands

The restoration and protection of peatland are crucial in our efforts to combat climate change. Peatlands act as vital carbon sinks, storing more carbon per hectare than forests. However, when degraded, they release carbon, contributing to global warming. Our restoration efforts at our Scottish site involve rewetting drained areas, reintroducing native vegetation helping to lock away carbon.

We farm with nature

We don’t plough our fields, reducing carbon losses and creating a healthy soil biome. We don’t house or supplementary feed our livestock, they live in the field year-round, grazing what naturally grows around them. So, as well as producing high-quality organic food, we’re taking steps to help combat our climate and biodiversity crises through our regenerative practices.

“The changes that are already occurring on the site are fantastic to see, and the aspiration to restore diversity and natural processes to the land is inspiring. Our visit was certainly a highlight of our academic year!”

ECOLOGICAL PROJECTS

We have accomplished a wide range of environmental projects that deliver ongoing benefits for climate, nature and community.

REWILDING AND REWETTING

The restoration of fundamental natural processes will be a powerful springboard for biodiversity

WILDFLOWER PLANTING

In the face of 90% loss of wildflower meadows in the last 50 years nationally, we have planted many acres of nature rich meadows

PARKLAND RESTORATION

Preservation of the huge cultural, historic and environmental significance of parkland and wood pasture

ROTATIONAL GRAZING

Using the combination of various species of grazing animals, we deliver environmentally restorative habitats and high welfare organic meat

TREE PLANTING

Growing a variety of trees through natural regeneration and strategic planting

SURVEYING & MONITORING

Capturing key environmental baseline information with the help of a wealth of local expertise and industry leading ecological consultancies

ORCHARD CREATION

Recreating a historic orchard with local heritage varieties of apples, pears and cherry
